Rumour has it that the winter sports holiday was 'born' in the 1800's when a hotelier in St Moritz wagered a group of British tourists enjoying the hospitality at his establishment, the Klum Hotel during the summer of 1864, that it is sunnier in winter in St Moritz and that if they returned at Christmas and stayed until Easter he would cover their board and lodge if he was proved wrong.

Well, apparently it certainly was gloriously sunny and the winter sports holiday was off to a flying start!
